Hexametaphosphate sodium has a strong hygroscopicity and is prone to absorb moisture and become sticky when exposed to humid air; the aqueous solution will slowly hydrolyze over time, and the hydrolysis will accelerate at high temperatures, reducing the chelating efficiency.
