2-isopropylthioxanthone ITX CAS 5495-84-1
2-Isopropylthioxanthone is a type II free radical photoinitiator of the thioxanthone class. Its appearance is a pale yellow crystalline powder. The industrial product is usually a mixture of 2-ITX and 4-ITX isomers.
Ultraviolet characteristic absorption peaks: 258 nm, 382 nm. It can absorb long-wave ultraviolet light and plays a photoinitiation role under mercury lamp and UV LED light sources; its water solubility is extremely low and it can be dissolved in organic solvents such as acrylic monomers, esters, and aromatic hydrocarbons.

1. UV curing inks: screen printing inks, flexographic inks, offset printing inks, electronic circuit inks (mainstream)
2. UV coatings: wood finishings, plastics, metal and colored UV topcoats
3. UV adhesives, photopolymer resins, unsaturated polyester UV systems
4. Can be used as photosensitive sensitizers in cationic UV curing systems
1. Type II hydrogen-releasing photoinitiator, when used alone, has limited initiating efficiency; when combined with tertiary amine co-initiators (such as EDAB), the effect is significantly enhanced, generating active free radicals and initiating UV resin polymerization and crosslinking.
2. Advantage of long-wave UV absorption, suitable for thick coatings, dark/colored UV inks, and colored paints; many short-wave photoinitiators cannot penetrate colored systems, while ITX can achieve deep curing.
3. Good thermal stability, does not self-polymerize at room temperature; sensitive to light, will change color under long-term exposure to light, storage and packaging must be protected from light.
4. Low volatility, with little residue after curing.
