Triethyl citrate is an oily, colorless liquid at normal temperature and pressure. Its solubility in water (at 25℃) is 6.5g/100cm ³. Triethyl citrate has a sweet and pleasant aroma of fruit wine and plums. This compound is soluble in most organic solvents but poorly soluble in oil. Triethyl citrate has good compatibility with most cellulose, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate resins and chlorinated rubber, etc.

Triethyl citrate is a non-toxic plasticizer, widely used as a plasticizer for cellulose resins and vinyl resins.
In food, it serves as a leavening and shaping agent, effectively enhancing the foaming performance of baked goods and improving their leavening state. As an antioxidant, triethyl citrate is used to stabilize soybean oil, salad oil, margarine, shortening and other edible oils and fats. As a flavor enhancer, triethyl citrate can be used in soft drinks, cold beverages, candies, and baked goods to enhance flavor. Triethyl citrate is also used as a chelating agent and carrier solvent.
Triethyl citrate is particularly suitable for industries such as ink and coatings, non-toxic PVC granulation, pharmaceutical industry, children's soft toys, medical products, flavor and fragrance blending, and cosmetic manufacturing.
