Barium carbonate, with the chemical formula BaCO3, has a molecular weight of 197.35. It is in the form of hexagonal fine crystals or white powder. It is insoluble in water, has a density of 4.43 grams per cubic centimeter, and a melting point of 1740℃ (8820 kilopascals - 90 atmospheres). It decomposes at 1450℃, releasing carbon dioxide. It is slightly soluble in water containing carbon dioxide.
