Methyltriphenylphosphonium Bromide CAS 1779-49-3
Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is a white crystal. Melting point is 234-235℃. Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is a solid quaternary phosphonium salt flame retardant. At present, halogen-containing flame retardants are widely used organic flame retardants with excellent flame retardant properties. They can also be used as Wittig reagents for the preparation of olefins and increasing the carbon number of unsaturated carbon chains. The ylide precursor of the Wittig reaction is widely used in the synthesis of unsaturated bonds in liquid crystal materials. It is also widely used in organic synthesis. It is a good cationic phase transition catalyst.

1. Core reagent of Wittig reaction: Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is used to synthesize olefins (especially terminal olefins) and convert aldehydes/ketones into olefins:
2. Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is widely used in the synthesis of drugs (such as vitamin A, prostaglandins), natural products (such as insect pheromones) and the preparation of functional materials (such as liquid crystal molecules).
3. Phase transfer catalyst: Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide promotes the reaction between the aqueous phase and the organic phase and improves the efficiency of ionic reactions.
